persimmons past prime

Thanks for your concerns for my parent's home. Change of plans again. My brothers and the insurance folks are handling everything for now. There was lots of damage so we are having to leave it to the professionals to move out, clean up, and re-do. It will be okay sometime.
Okay, how many of you have eaten a persimmon? I have had these in my studio for three weeks and finally got around to painting them yesterday. They are on the mushy side now. I have painted them before but never tasted one. Am I missing out?

  1. Just read your last post. So sorry that happened. Hope all is better soon.

I like both paintings. Love the blue plate in the last post! This is a fantastic painting of persimmons! I also painted them, but they practically rotted before I finished! Didn't eat one. I have no idea how they taste. I'll check back and see if anyone else has. :-)

  4. Bright, cheerful painting in these dark winter days! Very nice!

Persimmons are a mild-flavored fruit. I don't think they are anyone's favorite, but they are interesting. I really think they are best enjoyed in a painting.

  5. So sorry to hear about your parents home...home that all will be recoverable.
This is such a nice painting of persimmons...love how you handled their leafy tops.
There are 2 kinds of persimmons that I know of and from the looks of it you have the roundish flat ones. There is also an oblong or oval shaped kind. I Don't know thae names of them. They are good but have a very subtle taste. I peeled mine and took out the core and sliced it and ate it that way. Not real impressive, but not bad.

  6. I am sorry to read about the water damage to your parent home - happened to my parents home in winter when the pipe burst, such a mess but they were able to come right in the end. I have had persimmon jam but not the real fruit - Have a Great Day - Regards - Robin J Mitchell

  7. It's actually amazing that one could be my age and not have tasted a persimmon but I've enjoyed the earth colors and sunny quality of yours.
    Nice painting!

  8. Carol,
I am finding it hilarious that all of us are buying these precious silly persimmons and no one is really worried about eating them. Love this one and the leaves are such fun to paint. This must have felt tiny after the 2' x 3 '??
Glad you did not have to run to NC...hope all will be well. Take care!

  9. Love this piece Carol, they certainly don't look mushy in the painting. I have never bought or eaten a persimmon, but they are attractive! Hope all will be well with your parents home.
