merry and bright

sold

I continue to neglect posting to my blog. Sorry if you care. I will try to do better. This was a pleasure to paint. I bought the tulips yesterday and put them in the vase overnight. They looked very appealing this morning when I got to the studio. It was nice finding the satsumas with the leaves still intact too.

I tried very hard to remember to keep it fresh and not overworked. I have done several commissions lately and I tend to tighten up. I am happy with the looseness and all in this piece.

Almost Christmas time. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

catching up

sold
It is hard to believe I have not posted anything since August.  I get very lazy about social media stuff.  I always post to my instagram page but have been neglecting my blog and website.  Sorry to anyone who cares.  I have been painting away. I have had lots of shows this Fall and that is probably one of the reasons I have been slacking. I have been to Huntsville, AL , Louisville, KY, Carrollton, GA and most recently Memphis, TN.  It has been great getting out and seeing people .  I missed that.
The following is the rest of my Fall schedule:
Greater Gulf Coast Art Festival in Pensacola, FL Nov 5-7

Three rivers Art Festival in Covington, LA Nov 13 and 14

Open studio, Vestavia, AL Nov 18

These are photos of some of the pieces I have been painting.

My heart has been very heavy these past few days over the deaths and crisis in Afghanistan. Praying and painting my way through the days.  So many to pray for all around our country and world.

a little less conversation

sold

Back to painting one of my favorite things.  I love using saturated colors when painting roosters and just loading on the thick paint.  Very satisfying.  This is painted on an 8 x 16 " deep canvas.

Kit and caboodle

sold

I am always trying to think of something new and fresh for still life set ups. The items here are the whole kit and caboodle for making a popular drink called ranch water. Doesn’t that sound good? Horses and cows traipsing through the water on the ranch.  Don’t think I would want to drink that. This ranch water drink is a mixture of tequila, lime and mineral water.

This is painted on a 30 x 30” canvas.

tennessee whiskey

sold

The title for this 30 x 40" painting was inspired by a Chris Stapleton song.  He has such a beautiful talent and seems like a pretty good guy.

This piece was painted over an unsuccessful abstract.  Leaving some of it shining through helped to make this painting successful.  Making lemon aid out of lemons.

harmonious

sold

Trying to get back to some basics after painting a few things that I was not happy with.  My mood has been a little glum because of foot surgery recovery and not being in my normal routine.  Boo hoo!  I am over feeling sorry for myself.  Focusing on what I can do now and not what I can't!!

I am happy with the way this turned out.  Some of my very favorite colors in this 16 x 20" piece.

gray

sold

Hello!  I am trying to get back to the easel some while recovering from foot surgery.  I have been putting it off because I dreaded all the time I would have to lay around and stay off of it.  It has only been ten days but I am so ready to get back to my regular painting and exercise routine.  Trying to be a patient patient.

I worked on this horse little bits at a time.  I am happy with the outcome of this 16 x 20".  I want to try it on a large canvas soon.

Happy 4th of July!!

jaune

I can not believe I have not posted since March. I said I was going to be better in the new year.  Hmmm...

I had some successful shows this Spring despite the weather.  At my shows in Huntsville, AL and Nashville, TN several artists lost their tents and work to straight line winds.  The outdoor show life is not an easy one.

I have been finished with shows for a couple of weeks and have mostly been working on commissions.  I needed a little time away to focus on skill.  Boy, was I on the struggle bus today.  My goal is to simplify and beautify objects.  This painting did not flow off the brush and there were some ugly words said.  I am happy with the way it turned out but it was a struggle.  Need to keep on keeping on!

This painting is a 12 x 24".

sunny skies

sold
The sun was shining beautifully on a hydrangea I had on my catch all/drying table.  I worked fast to capture the sunlight illuminating it.  The time constraint helped me keep it a bit looser. I need to do timed pieces more often.  This is painted on an 8 x 16" canvas.

I have a few shows scheduled this Spring! yay!

March 27 and 28  Old Town art Festival St Augustine, FL

April 23- 25  Panoply in Huntsville, AL

May 1 and 2  Ridgeland Art Festival , Jackson, MS

May 7-9  TACA in Nashville, TN

sisters

I just finished this commission of sisters.  It was such a treat and honor to paint.  It is painted on a 12 x 24" canvas.

I have a few shows lined up for the Spring.  My first one is in St Augustine, FL March 27 and 28.  I am so excited to travel there because I have not been since I was a young girl.  Hoping to get a little Florida sunshine!

These are a couple of female cardinals that I recently painted.  I paint the male cardinals much more often because of their beautiful red.  These females are holding their own.  Both are painted on 6 x 6" canvases.

morning

This is the first large still life I have done in over a year.  I have a couple of shows I am participating in in March.  I hope!!  The first is in Fairhope, AL March 19-21.  The next weekend I will be in St Augustine, FL for the Old Town Art Show March 27 and 28.  I have not been to St Augustine since I was a little girl so I hope it does not get cancelled.  Fairhope is another favorite place to visit.

This is painted on a 36 x 36" canvas.

I hope you have a great weekend!  Stay safe!

years roll by

Felt like painting something happy today. Poor red headed children getting so much attention everywhere they go.  Including from me!  What a beautiful shade of blonde.  This is painted on an 8 x 10" canvas.

honey

It has been a while since I have painted a cow mug.  I got some wonderful photos of charolais cattle in Mississippi a couple of years ago.  I could have stayed there all day taking pictures.  I love playing with the shadow colors in white.

This is painted on a 12 x 12 " deep canvas.

winter happy

I have been struggling to get back in the studio.  The gloomy weather and political situation in our country has me a bit down.  My desire to paint is not very strong.

I have not painted pansies in a long time so it was a good challenge for me.  The colorful pansies and the bright lemons were just what I needed. Hopefully you too!

This is painted on a 6 x 8 x 1 1/2" canvas.

twins

A new patron saw my painting of the little blonde, Daisy Jane, and it reminded her of her daughter.  The little blonde, has a dark haired twin sister so I got to do another version. Her twin girls are in their teens now but it is always fun to remember them when...

These are each painted on a 12 x 16" canvas.

peace, love and joy

We need some sweet things to look at these days. I hope this little one will bring a smile to your face or a memory of someone.  This is painted on a 12 x 24" canvas.
