cow squared II

This is the second time I have painted this cow. The first time was on a 5 x 5" panel. This time I used a 12 x 12" gallery wrap canvas. I took the photo of this cow on my way home from visiting my son in Oklahoma. Keeping all those folks affected by the terrible weather in my prayers.
I am in North Carolina helping my parents move back in their home after they suffered water damage six months ago. So....no painting simce last Saturday. Willl catch up with your blogs when I return. Have a good week.sold

summer time

This 4 x 12" format fit the girl and her reflection so well. Lots of fun to paint. Thank you all for your nice comments on some of my recent paintings. Your thoughts are kind and helpful. I am pretty much of a loner painter so it is nice to hear feed back. My dog and husband are kind of prejudice.

reflection

Just playing around with a long, skinny format. This canvas is 4" x 12". I took this photo in Hilton Head right before dusk when there was great light making beautiful reflections in the water.

frisky

I think this is the first horse I have ever painted. When I was a girl I dreamed of having a horse and would draw pictures of the horse my parents were going to get me. Never worked out. I probably got a Barbie.
I took the photo of this horse on my way home from Nashville a couple of weeks ago. I spotted him right after I crossed the Alabama state line. There was an exit and an access road very close. It takes me a while to get anywhere. Glad I stopped. This is painted on a 20 x 20" canvas.sold

okie from muskogee

I took this picture a few months ago on my way home from visiting my son who is working in Oklahoma City. I had already made my husband pull over several times for me to take pictures of cows. (patience practiced) We made it a couple of hours down the road and decided to get breakfast in Muskogee. I chose to drive around and take pictures while my husband ate. It was fairly early in the morning and a great light was hitting this okie. I may get to say hello to this cow again because my son found out he is going to live in Muskogee for a few months working on a project there.

drifting away

This is the third time I have painted from this photograph of my brother in law. He received the first painting . This time I painted it on a 24 x 36" gallery wrap canvas. I am preparing for "Art on the Lake", a two day show at Lake Martin over Memorial day weekend. 15% of the proceeds go to Children's Harbor, an organization that provides resources for families of children with serious illnesses. Children's Harbor facilities and camp were damaged by the tornados that passed through our state so they need the money now more than ever.
On another note, I have decided to take the painting of the yellow lab "resilience" to my vet and see if they will display and sell it with proceeds going to the Red Cross Tornado Relief fund. So much destruction in our area that clean up and rebuilding is going to take years.

another bottle please

Can you believe she looks this good after three bottles? This is the painting I did yesterday from the last day of the Chaboun workshop. I have a million miles to go in the process of painting the human figure but I feel like Nancy helped get me down the road a bit.
This workshop was organized and put together by my friend Libby. She set us up on the sixth floor of her husband's beautiful downtown building. It was such a treat learning from Nancy and being with some of my fellow artist friends. Thanks Libby!
This is painted on a 9 x 12" panel.

you rang?

I have been extremely busy at a workshop that was held here in Birmingham this week. I took a break one afternoon and evening to slip back into my comfort zone and paint a curious cow. I have painted from this photo before but I did this one larger and changed a few things. I think I have a thing for brown cows. They are my favorite. This is painted on a 20 x 20"gallery wrap canvas. I sold most of my cow paintings so I am happy to paint a new herd.
Today was my last day of Nancy Chaboun's figure painting workshop. I had a great time and feel like I learned lots. Will post a painting tomorrrow and tell a little more about it.
Happy weekend to all!!

lavender beauty

Well...the first day's attempt at painting a figure from life. Nancy Chaboun did a demo in the morning and made it look very easy. I actually had more fun than I thought I would. We had beautiful models to work from. Nancy put this funky wreath in her hair but I think it looks pretty nice in the painting. This is painted on a 11 x 14" canvas.

two blue

This is painted with my Auburn friend's in mind. Cam Newton's jersey number was two. I first of all had in mind making a companion piece for "lucky 13". Auburn's colors are blue and orange and their winning quaterback's number happened to be the number on the blue pool ball. So... this is the perfect two pieces for you Auburn fans. My son gets it if no one else makes an offer. This is painted on an 8 x 16" gallery wrap canvas.
I am busy this week taking a figure painting class with Nancy Chaboun. She is a fabulous artist and has a wonderful way of sharing her knowledge. My fellow classmates are doing lots of laughing and groaning while trying to portray the poor models. Maybe I will post one of my attempts.

a week's worth

Happy Mom's day! Happy to be one and to have one. My mom is one of a kind and I am so thankful for her everyday.
Had a great time in Nashville. Always fun to stay with and visit my friend Elizabeth. I met lots of new artist friends too. One of them is the reason I reworked this painting a bit. Vicki Sawyer is a kind and very talented artist who had to stare at this painting for a couple of days. She very delicately told me that she loved the content but not so much the background. She gave me some suggestions that made for a better painting. I love that. This is painted on an18 x 24" linen canvas.
Please excuse the glare.

resilience

I took the photo I used as a reference for this painting the day after the tornados ravaged across my state and others. This beautiful dog was waiting for his owner in the back of a truck. I equate the look on his face to the resolve the folks across the southern states are showing now. So many people have lost everything and when interviewed show such courage and faith. We need to do everything we can to help them. I am going to give the proceeds from this painting to the agency that I feel is giving the most back to those suffering from the tornado. I am too busy to make that decision and set anything up now. I have to pack up for a three day art show in Nashville. If you have any good ideas about how I should set up an auction or something, leave a comment or e mail me. This is painted on a 16 x 20" gallery wrap canvas. Tell all your lab loving friends to check it out. I may buy it myself.

The art show I am participating in is the Harding Academy show . Come see me if you are in the area.

me

This week's daily paintworks challenge was to do a self portrait. Was looking through my "glamour shot" images and was not interested. (I have never gotten a glamour shot, come on) Saw this picture that was taken by a crazy guy wearing a bathing suit bottom that was much smaller than the ones I wear. I was in Hilton Head taking pictures on the beach as a part of Karin Jurick's workshop and this guy came up and took my camera away from me and started taking my picture. I should have painted one of the other shots where I was putting my karate moves on him to get it back. Anyway...kind of fun. Painted this on an 8 x 10" canvas.
