well.....

This is the second piece I did at Nancy Franke's workshop.  I rarely finish paintings at workshops let alone post them.  Watching her paint and listening to her advice helped me crank out two in around three hours.  This is painted on an 18 x 24" unprimed canvas that she gave me. After seeing the photograph I brought to paint she felt it would look great on the unprimed.  Agreed!  This is the little girl that I stalked at an outside market in Florida a few weeks ago.  In reality, she was standing in front of a vegetable stand.  Another thing Nancy addressed.....make your photographs into anything you want. They are just a tool for your painting. Add, subtract, change, delete, whatever to help with your painting.  Be creative!

  6. these children are terrific, not overworked, fresh and precious, love the advice about photographs, just wiped off a painting I started and duh! guess what it was too photographic and was ugly. After 45 yrs. I would think I wouldn't do that.

  17. What a great great painting. I can see why you followed the little girl around, the tutu is so adorable, I love how it rested under her cute little belly. As always, great brushstrokes.
