I took the reference picture for this painting in Siena, Italy. I have the feeling that these two guys gather on this corner every day. Wish I could have heard some of their stories. Love their body posture. I painted this on an 8 x 10" linen canvas.

Love the relaxed familiarity you got here between this two old friends. Wonderful light along the side of the front man's pants and shirt! Love the hair and the shoes too.
ReplyDeleteThey even look Italian...how do you do that!!!
ReplyDeleteYour figures are great, the subject heartwarming. But the stone!!! OMG the stone!!! Look at that texture! How do you do that! It just screams stone!!!
ReplyDeleteReally nice painting! The gestures in your figures are perfect. And a good composition. Also, as Karen says the stone is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful and evocative piece, Carol! I love these types of paintings and I too would love to hear these guys' stories! I'll bet that have many that would make you laugh, make you cry, and make you do both at the same time!
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting! Everything is soft, subtle colors. All those muted colors make the reds in the skin tones really outstanding, but they are muted too! And the light on his shirt is perfect. Really well done, Carol!
ReplyDeleteFabulous, Carol! Yes, you can't help but speculate on their conversation. You are doing a great job immortalizing your trip to Italy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful and universal subject but these guys look Italian! I love your work.
ReplyDeleteYou really captured an everyday image.....just beautiful !
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorites. This is how I want to paint.
