open water

Think I overworked this a bit. Took this photo at my parents home in North Carolina this past winter. The lake was 90% frozen so there was a cluster of birds in the open water. There were beautiful colors and reflections on the ice/water. This is painted on an 8 x 10" canvas.

    Une peinture vraiment réussie... Je ne sais pas travailler en épaisseur. Mais en ce qui vous concerne, vous y parvenez parfaitement bien. Bravo Carol.
    La lumière contraste bien avec les plumes du corps de votre cygne.

    I like it. I don't think overdone. Interesting texture on a soft subject. Love the colors, especially the orange & blue in unexpected places.

    Love the blues and purples in this one, Carol. I don't think it is overworked at all and the colors are exquisite for showing the cold and ice of winter.

    The background is almost an abstract piece (like Diebenkorn) but then this beautiful swan pulls you back to realism. I love the orange on the head. nice touch.

    Really fantastic job on this one. It has such a sculpted feel, but because of your colors, I also get that "icy" feeling too.

    I love the texture you achieved. It creates the mood of cold temperature. The colors and shapes look icy in your paint application, yet there is a warm glow to the bird. Beautiful.

    I don't think it's overworked, Carol. Did you use a pallet knife? It's very powerful and very beautiful, whatever you used.
