This is a commission piece for a friend. I have to admit that I get nervous when friends tell me they have a picture they want me to paint. My mind goes to the worst scenario. What a treat it was when Stacy showed me this wonderful photo of her Dad and his dog. A commission that was really fun to paint!! This is a surprise for her Mom's birthday. I painted this on a 20 x 24" canvas. So hapy to be more comfortable painting large canvases. Not such a stretch for me anymore.
So.... all's really good. Ready to loosen up a bit tomorrow with something that does not matter if it is representative. I may even venture outside into the beautiful weather.
Wonderful painting! I love the light on his face and jacket. The dog is a sweetie, too. I know your friend will love it!

Very nicely done! You captured his contentment so well.
ReplyDeleteCarol, this is exquisitely beautiful. You can almost feel the breeze and see it lifting this man's hair. He looks to be on a boat and I find I just want to sit back there with him and chat with he and his wife and play with the dog.
ReplyDeleteYou've done a real great work. You're friend must be so proud !
ReplyDeleteA spectacular job, I love the way co that gives light, very good job, congratulations, greetings.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, Carol, this piece has emotion. I love the sureness and softness of your strokes...and how they are appropriately larger for the man and smaller for his dog. You must feel great satisfaction about this one.
ReplyDeleteCarol, awesome job. What a peaceful painting so beautifully executed. I'm glad to hear you are comfortable with the big paintings. I just started back on a big one and it's a little intimidating after all my small ones. ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light and atmosphere, lovely gesture. Also like your painting of the dear photo of the dad and Robin . . . I can feel the gentleness in both.
ReplyDeleteLove the light and brushstrokes in his hair and shirt. It's a great piece with two obvious best friends enjoying a peaceful moment.
