down time

I am having a severe case of painters block combined with no down time. I worked on an 8 x 10" painting yesterday and today for about five hours for naught!
Scrubbed away into oblivion. Trying to make peace with myself. I am taking it harder because I do not have time for failed paintings.
A son moving home tomorrow to start a job in Birmingham. Yippee! Fourth plans with relatives in Tennessee. Work trip with my church to Tennessee July 9 - 16th. Susan G Komen 3 day walk in Boston July 20- 25. All fun stuff just not much time to catch up with painting. Ya Da Ya Da Ya Da........
I took the reference photo for this painting in Hilton Head. Struggled a lot with the foreshortening but decided it was close enough. I painted it on a 6 x 12" cradled panel.
I hope you guys are having a terrific summer!

  2. I want to be doing what she's doing in that painting! Sounds like you need to do that too! I can't paint well either when I don't have enough time. Is there something you can say no to for a while? Take care of yourself!

  3. Sounds like a good life! Lots of family, lots of fun stuff. Maybe you just need to enjoy it! And, this is a good piece! Like the looseness.

  4. I'm with Pam on this one, Carol. And the painting is terrific! Have to confess that I am so not a fan of summer. I find the heat and humidity and brightness of sunny days a bit overwhelming for me. Give me rain and storms any day! (As long as no one is hurt, that is.)

  5. I think the painting is wonderful. All good! You captured a sense of that kick back peace and calm...what we all want and need. Sounds like things are super busy and you have a lot going on right now. Deep breath and so proud about the walk you are doing! You are just like the painting- all good:)

  6. I love how you simplified this scene! Just a gal and a beach! I'd love to be there. I think you did a great job on the foreshortening. Have a fun summer!

  8. It's tough with you're struggling with a painting but I,too, think this reads fine. Sometimes too many things in life make it difficult to concentrate. Enjoy your July and see what comes out on the canvas when you can relax.
