Tried to put into practice one of the ways David Shelvino paints but it was hard with this challenge. He blocks his paintings in with a neutral color and then starts with the lightest parts of the painting. His reasoning is he feels the paint and pallete get dirtier as you get into a painting. Wants to keep his lights the purest form. He does this with figures and still life. Works for him.
This is painted on an 8 x 10" gallery wrap canvas.
So glad you kept "at it" with this painting, it turned out great. Hope to give it a try myself, have done the upside down process before but not in a long time and am sure it'll be a good lesson.
ReplyDeleteWow! JUICY COLOR! Just YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteCarol, it turned out beautifully! You have the values and reflections just perfectly. Nice effect!
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting- love the colors and reflections. Good for you!!
ReplyDeleteWell done Carol...I have yet to do this one...maybe tomorrow? or maybe not?
ReplyDeleteThere is no indication that you struggled at all with this Carol. Your purposeful brush work in the watermelon and bowl look confident and assured...well done!
ReplyDeleteWow! Whew - what a challenge and you executed just beautifully! Well done Carol... missing you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous edges. That David must be the reason you are feeling ill! Go lie down. You must not let a little paint give you the flu. The struggle was definitely worth the effort, or vice versa. Your painting is great.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing you again at the reception in Atlanta last week. Your work is vibrant, fresh and wonderful!
ReplyDeleteQuite a beauty and such magnificent reflections!
ReplyDeleteLooks good to me and I agree, this was a very tough challenge. I wanted to throw mine across the room several times.
ReplyDeleteGlad you kept going, wonderful painting. Love David's work, did you take his workshop?
ReplyDeleteSo bold and strong in color and brushwork! So glad you kept at it . . . the color is gorgeous and the reflections are stellar!!
ReplyDeleteYummy colors and fabulous work on the reflections! Interesting way of working... light to dark. Will have to try this sometime.
ReplyDeleteReally great painting, girl! The reflections and colors are absolutely spot on.
ReplyDeleteOMG I'm drooling. Over the watermelon, yes, but the painterly quality of the reflections - WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this one!
ReplyDeleteCarol, I know this is an old post, but I have been going back through your pages, admiring all the art! This painting is amazing... love the bowl and reflections. I've fallen in love with this style and I'm trying to read what I can about it... do you have any online workshops, videos, etc.?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to visiting your blog often! :)
