monday

Monday, Monday!! This one has lived up to it's bad reputation for me today.  First off, I painted this little girl's face 100 times.  She went from looking like an alien to a dried apple doll to Hitler.  This image is lucky to be on this screen instead of a paper towel in my trash can.  The only reason I persevered is that I liked everything else.  I wish I had taken some pictures of the other faces.  I did a lot of laughing and cursing this morning. Then after I decided I could live with face # 107 and took a picture of the painting I could not get the image capture to work on my computer.   Fooled with it for an hour or so when I had a ''dim lightbulb" moment and turned the computer off.  Problem solved.  Why does it take me an hour to think of that?
Then to add to this comedy of errors I typed out this long blog post and I hit some button and it disappeared. I just had to laugh at that. I have decided that because I have had a rough start to my week that  I want to make someone else happy.  I am going to randomly pick one of my blog e mail subscibers to receive this painting.  I will do the drawing this coming Friday morning.  This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.

Have a good Monday!

  1. I love it, Carol! You made me laugh out loud! A couple asked me to paint a from a photo of them at their wedding...of course on a very small canvas. I couldn't get the groom to not look like Mario! Everytime I laid in the shadow under his nose...it looked like Mario's mustache. This one looks great, however! No remaining likeness of Hitler at all! :) Please add me to the drawing! Hope the week gets better every day!!

  8. Such a great story. I am always so surprised when someone that paints as beautifully as you do has problems. This piece turned out beautifully! I am so glad you persevered!

  9. I laughed too at your description of your day. I think we all have felt your pain - many times! That's the beauty of oils - we can just keep working on it til it looks right. Glad you stayed with her - she's cute!

  11. Love this post. So honest and unpretentious. I better look that word up in my dictionary, but I think it's what I mean. :-) Sometimes what we do is a downright struggle. It takes courage and humility to share it. Thanks, Carol.

  12. I have been in your shoes many times, so it is refreshing that someone who does such beautiful work sometimes struggles too. Faces are so difficult. That's one reason I've admired your work and Nancy Franke's... you paint lovely scenes of children on the beach with NO faces! Your post about Nancy's workshop even inspired me to sign up for one this winter!
