revamped rooster

I am getting ready to participate in an art show September 8th so I have been looking through my available art work.  I saw this rooster and I liked his pose but he was lacking some energy.  I amped him up with some color. He looks a little more cocky now.
I am in a one day show in Athens, Alabama Saturday, September 8th.  Art on the Square.  Tents are set up around the historic town square. My sister and her family live close so it is a fun place to visit.  I actually took the picture of this rooster at her home. Long time followers of my blog will know that I nicknamed him Mr. Wonderful because he was.  He loved to be photographed.  This painting is painted on an 8 x 10" linen canvas.sold

dog days

These may be the dog days but they have been pretty comfortable as of late. I just spent five days in Asheville, NC caring for my six year old neice and nine year old nephew while their parents were away.  I learned a lot of new things, got lots of hugs and had a great time.   It was was fun to give them back to their parents too. I like being a renter.
I came back to my baby 22 year old son needing surgery to repair a broken ankle.     He did well in surgery this morning and is on the mend.

chaste

I could not think of a name for this painting so I opened the dictionary and required myself  to choose a word off of one of the two open pages.  The best of my options was chaste.  It's meanings: 1) abstaining from all or unlawful sexual practices 2) modest or decent 3) severly simple.  Althought the first definition would be a stretch, the last two fit this painting fairly well. This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen panel.

monday

Monday, Monday!! This one has lived up to it's bad reputation for me today.  First off, I painted this little girl's face 100 times.  She went from looking like an alien to a dried apple doll to Hitler.  This image is lucky to be on this screen instead of a paper towel in my trash can.  The only reason I persevered is that I liked everything else.  I wish I had taken some pictures of the other faces.  I did a lot of laughing and cursing this morning. Then after I decided I could live with face # 107 and took a picture of the painting I could not get the image capture to work on my computer.   Fooled with it for an hour or so when I had a ''dim lightbulb" moment and turned the computer off.  Problem solved.  Why does it take me an hour to think of that?
Then to add to this comedy of errors I typed out this long blog post and I hit some button and it disappeared. I just had to laugh at that. I have decided that because I have had a rough start to my week that  I want to make someone else happy.  I am going to randomly pick one of my blog e mail subscibers to receive this painting.  I will do the drawing this coming Friday morning.  This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.

Have a good Monday!

flying chick

I don't think chicks can fly but this one did.  After I paint my pictures I take them outside to photograph.  Today I decided to go out on our rarely used apartment porch to photograph this.  I ran slap dab (slap dab?) into a huge spiderweb spun right outside the sliding glass door.  Chickee went flying outside as I scrambled back inside before the spider attacked me.  They are always on the look out.  Maybe not but I HATE spiders.
This is a commission for my friend so I am glad it survived the attack.  It is painted on a 5 x 5" gallery wrap canvas. sold

all in

I took the photo reference for the painting at North Street beach in Chicago.  I had to edit out a few folks because he was not as alone as he appears.  He had a couple of hundred friends.
Lake Michigan is crazy the way it resembles ocean water.  My son lives a couple of blocks from this beach.  Lucky guy.  Such a great place for people who like to run, walk, swim, or bike.
This is painted on a 16 x 20" gallery wrapped canvas.  I am still enjoying painting on the linen colored canvases.  I like the way the paintbrush drags across the surface.sold

vidalia 3

I recently came home to a bag of sprouty vidalias.  It was fun to get back to my roots and paint a still life.  It is a treat to paint from a live model even if they are smelly onions.  This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen panel.

north beach

I just returned from seven days of travel helping one son move to Chicago and then going to visit his twin brother in Orlando. I am really proud of them and cherish every moment spent together.
I photographed this little girl at North Beach in Chicago. Hopefully the end product does not reveal the struggles I went through during the painting process.
Fun note...I can finally see what my studio is going to look like in my new home.  All framed up.
