gatherer

I fit one last painting in before a week of travel.  I am riding with my son Clint to Chicago tomorrow.  He starts a new job in a week.  Looking forward to getting him settled and checking out the sites. I am in Chicago for most of the week and then flying to visit another son Ben who has recently moved to Kissimmee, FL.  I am sad that they do not live closer but happy that they live in fun places to visit.

This is painted on a 16 x 20" gallery wrap canvas.  I have recently started painting on some clear primed linen canvases and
I like the way the colors pop.  Thank you Nancy Franke!sold

jessie

This is the third and final commission piece for my friend Jeanne. This is her youngest daughter Jessie when she was a toddler.  I feel a great since of accomplishment at the moment because I was concerned I would not be able to pull off a likeness.  This has turned out to be one of my personal favorites. Thanks Jeanne for unknowingly pushing me beyond my comfort zone. This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.

appalachian elvis

I took the reference photo for this picture a couple of weeks ago in Sunbright, Tennessee. A bluegrass band entertained the church group I was with.  The guy on the left had a bit of Elvis swag going.  I was mostly drawn to his "I'm a cool guy posture".  The venue was an elementary school cafeteria so I had to fake the surroundings.  This is painted on a 12 x 16" gallery wrap canvas.

courtney

This painting is another commission for my friend Jeanne. This is her daughter Courtney a few years back. The reference photo was black and white so it was fun adding color to it.  I am NOT a portrait artist so this is really just a likeness of Courtney.  I can't imagine the stress portrait artists feel.  The slightest miss can throw the whole thing off.  Huge admiration but no desire.  This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.

jeanne's

This is a commission piece for a good friend.  This is a painting of her husband when he still had hair and her girls when they were small.  Her oldest daughter just graduated from Wofford and is the assistant to the governer of  South Carolina and the tike in the middle just finished her freshman year at Ole Miss.  And.....her husband is an incredible photographer. This picture brought back memories for Jeanne of her in law's beach home and the good times they shared there.  This is painted on an 11 x 14" linen panel.

cheery cherries

I was drawn to the contrast between the granny smith apple and the ranier cherries.  This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen panel.  Hope your weekend is a good one.

hustle

This painting was inspired by what I thought was a bad photograph.  When I am taking candid photographs of people and trying to be discreet I often times cut people's body parts out.  This little girl had a very cute head but I like the motion and design in what was left of her body.  I painted this on a larger 22 x 28" gallery wrap canvas.sold

undercover

I wanted to paint something a little light hearted today so I searched through my Boston beach lady pictures.  My favorite thing about this series of photos is the  body posture.  I love the hands on the hips thing and that is recurring in the photos.  I loved this lady's white glasses and cover up.  This is painted on a 10 x 10" gallery wrap canvas.

offspring

Getting my feet wet after being away for more than a week.  I took this picture close to my sister's home.  This calf was staying in his mom's shadow.
I spent last week with a great group of seventy youth and adults from my church.  We helped some folks in Sunbright, Tennessee make their homes a bit more livable.
