beach cammo

Another example of my artistic attention deficit disorder.  I paint a serious still life one day and a lady in a polka dot bathing suit the next. I am short on time this week but wanted to participate in Carol Marine's polka dot challenge on Daily Paintworks.
Hope this one makes you smile. It is painted on a 6 x 6" gallery wrap canvas.sold

new pot

I got a new vase recently so I decided to try it out today.  I have always loved painting still lifes but have not painted many lately.  I am definitely going to mix some in during the coming weeks. This is painted on a 6 x 6" linen panel.sold

I have been painting girls a bit more often so I wanted to give the boys some attention. No tutu bathing suit on this little guy. This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen panel.

jubilation

I just returned from the beach refreshed and with a new crop of pictures that I can't wait to paint.  I probably took thirty or more pictures of this little girl.  She was way down the beach from me so I used my zoom and snapped away.  Think you will see her again. This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.
I am participating in a one day art show tomorrow at the Children's Harbor at Lake Martin.  It is a favorite show of mine because I get to see lots of friends that live on the lake and 15% of the proceeds go to support Children's Harbor.  They help provide resources for families of children with serious illnesses.

I am taking a few days off to catch up with a friend at the beach.  I will have my camera in tow so beware if you are in the Orange Beach area.

just peachy

First still life set up for me in a long time. I wanted something colorful so I discovered a peach with the leaves still intact this morning at the grocery.  I carefully took it home and set up this scene and drew it on the canvas.  The leaves had drooped by the time I got to the painting so I had to wing it. I loved painting from real life even though I had some issues. This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen canvas.sold

backward glance

I have enjoyed having more time to paint lately.  Not a lot to take care of in our apartment. I feel no sense of guilt when I walk past weeds growing in the yard area outside of our front door.  I just look at them as pretty flowers.
I am happy to report that they have started foundation work on our new house. We were delayed a good bit because of wet weather.  Never happier to see lots of sunny days in a row.
This is painted on a 8 x 8" gallery wrapped canvas.  I painted this calf a while back on a different size canvas.
She makes me happy.  Have a good weekend!sold

lunch break

Sheep eat a lot.  Hard to get their face in a picture because it is always buried in the grass.  Still makes a nice painting.  This is painted on a 6 x 6" gallery wrap canvas.

trifold

I am not sure which of these lamb's expressions I like more.  The one on the left is staring at me pretty straight forwardly, the one in the middle is giving me a one eyed look and the one on the right is giving me his chin. This is from one of my favorite photographs I took at the Sweet Season sheep farm. This is painted on an 8 x 10" linen panel.sold

daddy's girl

This is a commissioned painting.  I had a wonderful photograph to work from.  It was late evening so there were beautiful colors in the sky, water and sand. I love the solid stance of the protective Dad. This is a surprise gift for him! This is painted on an 11 x 14" linen panel.sold

sand scribe

I have decided that profiles are tough.  This was just for fun so it did not matter that it resembled the girl but it mattered to me.  I have started rotating the image on my computer monitor and my canvas upside down so that I will quit thinking about what I am painting and just paint what I see.  A big help.
I painted this in response to the Daily Paintworks challenge. We were asked to paint something yellow.  I am not a huge fan of painting yellow because I struggle with the temperature.  Just a little yellow in this as a nice contrast to all the cool colors.  This is painted on an 8 x 8" gallery wrap canvas.sold

tutu cute

I kind of stalked this little girl.  I saw her a couple of weekends ago at an outside market at the beach. Loved her black t shirt and pink tutu.
This is painted on a 5 x 7" linen panel.
Happy weekend!

romper

Just returned from participating in a show that was held on a beautiful sheep farm.  Might sound odd but it was a pretty cool event.  First time I have ever had a real opportunity to see sheep up close.  I particularly loved watching the lambs bounding around the fields following their moms.  Such a sweet looking and sounding animal.  This is painted on a 6 x 6" gallery wrap canvas.

putter

Putter was the beloved westie of  a friend.  I painted her once before with her best friend and master who has also recently passed.  "putter and me" was my painting post for 2/17/2011. It was a surprise for my friend's parents.  Hope I did him justice.
I am leaving to do a one day show up in north Alabama.  "art at the barn" in Valley Head, Alabama.  It is being held at Sweet Seasons Farm from 10- 4 Saturday so come see me if you are in the area.sold

wild blue yonder

I struggled with this youngster.  Worked hard to get the values right.  I was drawn to his hair and the confident stride he was taking into the water.  This is painted on a 5 x 7" raymar linen panel.  My favorite surface of all time.
