I wonder why it is that odd number groupings are more pleasing? Tell me your thoughts.

  1. Something about odd numbers... can't explain it, it's one of those instinctive feelings that make us choose what we like best.
Beautiful painting. And perfect title. :)

  2. Great question and a great painting! I have no idea why odd numbers are better so I googled it and found an interesting article by a gardener. It basically said nature is chaotic and our brains are always trying to make sense of it and put it in order (i.e., pairs) so when we see odd numbers are brains are scurrying around trying to organize it thus engaging us.

  4. I had read sometime ago that odd numbers represent conflict and tension, whereas even numbers represent resolution. So, odd numbers appear to be more exciting because of the tension that is created. I know, it sounds pretty heavy! Could it be like having three children, haha???

  5. I think because odd numbers are not symmetrical and they represent one leftover men who is always excited.hehe lovely work!

  9. beautiful piece. I love the bright colors and the way you handled the back ground. An odd number but grouped with an odd group and an even group. Very interesting composition.

  10. I thing it is because equal is more stable and odd adds interest and glamor. These pears are so right.
