pears in planter

Another creative title. I could have named it "pears in a tarnished silver planter with weird scalloped edges that were hard to paint". Decided to paint the pears with leaves one more time. The leaves are getting a bit
shriveled. Painted this on an 8 x 10" linen canvas. Am okay pleased with it. Wish i had placed the cherry blossoms a little further out. Speaking of cherry blossoms, they are fake. Not just now blooming in Biirmingham. Don't think they could handle 100 degree temps. I am wondering how you guys feel about fake flowers. I personally have only two types of fake that I will use in set ups. I have some very good silk sunflowers and these cherry blossoms. I guess depending on the way you paint it may or may not matter. Wonder what you flower painter's take is on this.8 x 10

  1. Lovely one, Carol. As for fake flowers, I guess painting from them is no worse than painting from a photograph. Probably even better as you can set up lighting and create real shadows, etc. I say, whatever works at the time. They are all tools, aren't they?

  2. Another lovely painting. I like the planter with its scalloped edges - they can't be easy to paint. The reflections are rendered beautifully.

As far as using artificial flowers, I agree with Carol. It's just another tool and you used your cherry blossoms perfectly with the pears.

  3. I think it's the end result that counts; painting the beauty of blossoms or flowers, and you did. Very nice painting.

  4. Hysterical alternate title and a lovely painting Carol! If the fake flowers do the job, why not?

  5. Well Carol, I can't tell you how many times I've had to feel a plant or flower to determine whether it is real or fake. And I'm not usually feeling it for that reason but because it is so pretty. In my house, I have fake green plants (we have cats so it is the only way I can have pretty greenery). Anyway, this is one lovely pearing (LOL). Love that silver planter, tarnished and scalloped edges or not.
